Our Massage Therapy program, 720 hours (36 semester units), is designed to
provide you with the tools necessary to successfully enter the massage industry.
As a graduate of this massage training program, you'll be prepared to
begin your career at a spa, therapy clinic, chiropractic or doctor's office,
health club, resort, or cruise ship. Working massage professionals teach the
basics of Swedish massage, sports massage, anatomy and physiology, sound
business practices related to the practice of massage, and an overview/exposure
to reflexology, Shiatsu, polarity, and other non-traditional modalities. Theory
is combined with hands-on instruction in a specially constructed massage
setting. Attending LA College for four hours a day, Monday-Friday, this program
takes about nine months to complete.
Learn about and practice Swedish massage; joint mobilization, testing, and range of motion; nursing, prenatal and infant massage; lymphatic massage; deep tissue massage;
and trigger point and neuromuscular therapy.
In this course, you'll learn and practice polarity techniques, somatic therapies, Reiki, craniosacral therapy, and more.
Understanding pain, pre- and post-event sports massage, stretching techniques, chair massage, reflexology and Shiatsu are all covered in this course.
In this course, students will learn about and practice
skills involved in working in spa services, and in
working with specific strategies to enhance good
health and wellness. Subjects covered are: face and
scalp massage, hot and cold hydrotherapy, Swedish
shampoo, and salt rub. Also presented are: working in
a spa environment, breathing and relaxing techniques.
Qi Gong and Tai Chi exercises, meditation, first aid,
and CPR.
Clinical massage therapy is covered here. Subjects include:
range of motion, Swiss ball exercises, ultrasound,
hydrotherapy, electrical stimulation, and rehabilitation.
In this program, students will obtain an overall understanding
of the skills involved in being both a successful business
owner and a massage therapist. Subjects taught are negotiations
and contracts, financial planning, time management, business
plans, anger and obstacle management, listening skills,
customer service, and insurance billing and reimbursement.
